The New York Times contributors in 12 different cities describe their favorite streets (and one river!) in 12 iconic European cities: Paris, Lisbon, London, San Sebastián, Madrid, Bern, Milan, Istanbul, Oslo, Vienna and Prague. All these nice New York Times writers are minimapping of course. Minus the map though.
Seth Sherwood says Rue de Charonne is a street for every mood and mission in Paris, “from the neon lights and sex shops of Boulevard de Clichy to the bucolic cobbled paths of Rue Georges Lardennois.” Tim Neville found his favorite street in Bern by accident one late-summer day. Berlin’s winner was Rüdersheimer Strasse and San Sebastián’s was the 31 de Agosto Street.
Lisbon’s lucky city, Rua Nova do Carvalho, is a dockside lane of seedy nightclubs named for Rotterdam, Liverpool, Copenhagen and other ports, whilst Milan’s Ripa di Porta Ticinese is near the ancient Naviglio Grande canal, of course! That place is just great.
